You may not have a boot.b if your system uses GRUB or if it has a newer version of LILO.  I'm not familiar with SUSE, so I'm afraid I'm not much help.   Try lilo without the boot.b or you might try Rick Stocker's GRUB instructions on the Pocket Linux Resource Site [pocket-linux.sourceforge.net].
