I fully agree with your first point.  Good catch.  GNU never used to 
include binary versions to my knowledge so I'm surprised to see the 
-i386.tar.gz package.  I'll probably just make a hyperlink to it.  As 
for the second point, I probably will make a note for the guide as a 
whole since there are many things that have to be done as root.  I am 
wondering about the third point though since there is a step for 'mkdir 
-p /mnt/boot/grub'.
