I thought that perhaps there would be extra overhead in terms of code 
included to accomplish the dynamic linking that would be gone with 
static linking.  By the way, are you zeroing out the ramdisk (or 
loopback device) each time you modify this image?  If you just delete a 
file the image will stay the same size since the file's contents are 
still there and all that gets deleted is the directory link to the file. 
  I ran into this problem a couple times myself.

Also, your Pine mail is getting rejected because the mailing list thinks 
you are not subscribed.  Same address though, so it does not make a lot 
of sense.
