ACTIVITIES: * Geek: Installing and tweaking home LAN of Linux, DEC Video Terminals, Emulex Terminal Servers, and Windows boxes, operating off of a dual-CPU Debian GNU/Linux box which acts as a firewall and IP-masquerading router as well as web, email, and file server. * Community: I founded UFO Chicago -- Users of Free Operating Systems Chicago, a group that meets bi-monthly to discuss free software and other geek-related info. We were the coordinators for the Chicago Dmitry Sklyarov protests in August and September, 2001. * Musician: Music is work as well as play -- I had a part-time professional musician gig for 3 years -- I am also a songwriter, have played in a few bands, and worked on several various side projects, including a Space-Rock-Opera (http://tastytronic.net/xy003/), solo recordings, and studio work for other musicians. I play guitar, piano, Tuba, percussion, and sing. I recorded a full studio album with my longtime project, redvinegar (http://redvinegar.net/). * Classical musician: Working at a university has its benefits -- I have been able to continue to play as a ringer in both the University Orchestra and the University Brass Quintet. I also founded a vocal octet specializing in Renaissance, early baroque, and American folk music. * Involved with Boy Scouting for many years and attained the rank of Eagle Scout.
